The book covers a lot of ground and is a source of a very large amount of clinically relevant information, much of which is well-referenced. There is good coverage of most medical disorders, some reference to surgical management, where appropriate, and a large amount of information provided in tables, appendices and drug formularies. There is also a liberal use of references. The quality of the book's materials and the sheer volume of information contained within this unusual text make it a useful addition to any practice library.

Disappointed

I own an older edition (Second - 1992) of this same textbook which was literally my best friend through many years of small animal practice. I thought it was about time to upgrade to the newer edition and modernize. Now, $175 lighter, I'm wondering if that was a smart decision. Just yesterday I examined a cat with feline plasma cell pododermatitis. A very rare condition but one which the earlier edition listed in the index and gave 3/4'ths of a page coverage to. Good luck finding any mention of it in the newest edition. How much other material has been squeezed out of this more recent, slimmed-down volume? It just goes to show that newer isn't always better.

I'm a foreign Veterinary preparing for the NAVLE test, I highly recommend this book, it is easy to read but at the same time it has the right deep in each chapter and very actual. It is not only usefull for students, I believe that it's a great book for Practioner Doctors. Great , great book, about Internal Medicine in Small animals. Other books in the same area such as Nelson -Couto, Ettinger, Birchard Sberding are really good but this one is my favorite.

The one book every pet vet needs.

If I could only have one vet text it would be this. It is so complete. For the GP SA practitioner this is deeper than the 5MC and broader than anything else I know of - includes dermatology, ophthalmology, behaviour, huge formulary.
