Erotic BDSM power exchange

This is a harcore BDSM romance with some fairly strong edgeplay including water bondage - that is giving over complete control of your ability to breathe to another person. It's not for the faint-hearted that's for sure but it's important to remember that the action in this book is completely consensual.

Carly, down on her luck, has signed up to be auctioned off as a sex-slave for a high fee at an exclusive BDSM Auction House. Despite being deeply submissive and masochistic, she has lied about her experience in the BDSM lifestyle to get the position. She catches the eye of Adam who buys her for a one month contract. Adam is an independently wealthy man and a sadist dom who is tired of women who only want him for his money and position and decides to make it more formal by buying what amounts to not much more than a very expensive but kinky whore.

What follows is erotic BDSM power exchange, no strings attached sex - a formal contract between two people. Adam is quite the sadist and lays out a rigid timetable and strict code of conduct for Carly to abide by. She does her very best but her lack of experience is very telling and she fails, constantly, to control her orgasms and Adam is able to revel in his sadist delight in punishing her for this. If you enjoy reading strong scenes of sadomasochism - you'll definitely enjoy this.

This is the first time Adam has taken out such a contract and is unaccustomed to complete emotional detachment in his D/s scenes and finds himself becoming more and more emotionally invested and, as such, is beginning to lose his control and detachment. He starts to see Carly's value not only as a submissive, but as a woman and a person. Subs often fall hard for their doms due to the deep trust required in this kind of relationship and Carly is no exception - she is developing a strong attachment to Adam and there doesn't seem to be anything she can do to stop it.

I enjoyed watching the developing relationship between them and, as Adam attempts to reassert his control, he pushes Carly too far and their contract reaches crisis point. There's not huge character development in this one, nor really a very dynamic plot but there are plenty of deeply erotic and very hot scenes of consensual BDSM action which is exactly what I want and expect from this kind of novel. So, this is a sweet BDSM romance which very much pushed all my buttons - it pays to remember that this contains strong scenes of consensual BDSM and is intended for a mature audience.

Erotic, but missing emotions

Carly Abrams has worked her entire life until she loses her job and her life spirals down. When someone tells her that there is a possibility of gaining money by becoming a man's submissive sex slave for a month by being sold to him at an auction. She is a masochist, but does not know how to submit. When Adam Wise buys her she is attracted to him, his dominating way exiting her, she really wants to submit and please him. Soon however she fears that her heart wants more. Adam is a man used to get what he wants. He does not want a relationship and is fed up of having to hunt a woman after the other to answer his need, women who are mostly attracted by his money. So why not simply buy the services of a professional, allowing his to use her body freely, never seeking for anything deeper. But this deal is not as satisfying as expected when he starts to care about her more than he believed possible.

The book is very erotic, if domination and submission (24/7 in this book) are your kink and you like a story which is a bit more than sex only, but also talks about feelings and fears this book is for you.
Personally I prefer the books by Cherise Sinclaire, mainly because there a more feelings and more care for the sub who is not only treated like an object but a person to respect and cherish. This is what annoyed me in this very erotic and hot story, the lack of care and aftercare, a sometimes immature Dom, which is pointed out by James and Amy, his friends.

Overall a hot, very erotic and nice read, lacking a bit of care of the sub and feelings at first, but maybe this is also erotic for some who like the idea of buying or being a sex toy being bought at an auction.

Incredible!

Do you know when you read a good book you find yourself drifting off into the new world the author has created? Well, I totally felt that and more with this book! Let me start off by saying that this is a hardcore, intense BDSM book but the romance is just as intense and hardcore. This isn't fifty shades of grey folks, this is real BDSM and real love... and it was wonderful. I would love to read more of Carly and Adam just because this is such an intense story. Their characters were so developed and well done as we see the first BDSM aspect of the story.

Adam purchases Carly from an auction and being the hardcore Dom he is... he does everything according to protocol. Teaching her the rules of his lifestyle and his ways but what happens when she fails almost everything he tests her at? He pushes her harder and pass the next test. It's obvious that she isn't as experienced as she claimed to be but there is nothing he can do. Or can he? He threatens to send her back multiple times but never has the guts to actually do it.

Then one time, a scene goes badly and he realizes just how much he cares for her. The next time the scene goes badly he sees that he is the problem and she needs to get away from him. He needs to let her go... Oh that was heartbreaking. I admit I totally balled my eyes out like a baby when he made her leave.... but can the power of love prevail? Will she be able to go back to her normal life? Once Adam realizes his mistake will he get back to her in time? Well, you have to read it to find out! I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves BDSM and romance.

Oversampling architectures are a potentially power-efficient means of implementing high-resolution A/D converters because they reduce the number and complexity of the analog circuits in comparison with Nyquist-rate converters. In fact, it is shown that the power dissipation of a sigma-delta modulator can approach that of a single integrator with the resolution and bandwidth required for a given application. In this research the influence of various parameters on the power dissipation of the modulator has been evaluated and strategies for the design of a power-efficient implementation have been identified.

A lot of room for improvement

After spending sometime reading this book, I find that this book still has a lot of room for improvement. This book does not have any proof on all the results that it states. It lacks all the required basic concepts and skips some important topics (IMHO). Nevertheless, it shows a lot of state of the art circuits and applications. This book is great as a reference book if you consider yourself an expert on ADC. There are a lot of mathematics without any detail proof. For a hundred dollar, I am expecting the author to do some work rather than trying to make some quick money. I am returning my copy.

This is a race car, not a Yugo

This book is written for the advanced IC designer and systems engineer (practicing engineer or smart grad student.) It's not for the novice. It introduces all the analog-to-digital conversion and sigma-delta concepts, but it assumes you know basic concepts like how to design an op amp and how MOS transistors work. If you don't, it's better to start with Grey & Meyer or with Razavi's introductory books. The publisher, Kluwer, prints a lot of PhD dissertations - which is what this book looks like.
If you have a good foundation in the basics of modern electronics, you'll learn a lot about sigma-delta and low power analog design. Otherwise, you should concentrate on the fundamentals before moving on to this level of material.

Excellent intro to sigma-delta and lots of practical advice

This book takes the reader through a step-by-step intro to sigma-delta modulation. It's full of practical hints on design and testing of A/D converters. It also has a thorough discussion of noise in switched-capacitor circuits and compares the switched-cap technique with continuous-time and switched-current. It's a great reference book for all analog, mixed-signal and switched-capacitor designers, not just those interested in sigma-delta modulation.

Lisa J. Green's AFRICAN AMERICAN ENGLISH: A Linguistic Introduction caused something of a sensation when it was first published in 2002. Here we have a rigorous, detailed examination of the grammar, lexicon, and sociolinguistics of African-American Vernacular English (AAVE) written by a native speaker, and moreover of a lesser cited dialect (New Orleans). All volumes in this Cambridge University Press series assume that the reader has training in linguistics, and Green's work is no exception. If you haven't taken general linguistics courses, then a more accessible introduction to AAVE might be Spoken Soul: The Story of Black English.

About half of the book covers the grammar and lexicon of AAVE. Green covers the terms found only in AAVE ("kitchen" in the meaning of "hair on the nape", "ashy" for skin, etc.). She then lists the AAVE's dizzying array of verbal markers and its interesting syntactic rules, showing how this non-standard, low-prestige variety nonetheless has an elegance and naturalness about it. The chapter on phonology discusses such things as final consonant sounds, devoicing, sound patterns and th and liquid vocalization.

The second half of the book is sociolinguistic. Few volumes in this Cambridge series cover speech events and rules of interaction, but Green details traditions of call-response, rap braggadocio and "playing the dozens" among the community of AAVE speakers. Green devotes an entire chapter to AAVE in literature, from the early, often inaccurate portrayals of black talk in minstrel shows to AAVE in the works of African-American writers. The final chapter talks about how AAVE is perceived in the American public education system, and I was aghast to read that speech pathologists are brought in to "heal" speakers who have no problems with their speech organs, but have merely learnt this non-standard variety natively.

This is a very informative work, with exhaustive citations to other research, and showing the diversity within AAVE that isn't always apparent in other treatments. That said, the book could have used some tighter editing and more careful typesetting. The amount of material packed onto each page can seem overwhelming. There are also some annoyances in transcription, with Green mixing IPA and standard English orthography within sentences for no apparent reason.

Bassiouney's bighearted fourth novel (the first to be translated into English) portrays the agonies of love and identity. When Ashraf Daawood returns to Egypt in 1980, after growing up and becoming a banker in England, his cousin Wafaa falls hard for him. She must deal with her turmoil in secret, however, when Ashraf begins dating Lubna Thaabit, a feisty Communist journalist. After a brief stay in jail for her political leanings, Lubna breaks up with Ashraf, who returns to London and soon loses all his money. Penniless and disgraced, Ashraf flees to America, where his comeuppance involves working as a lowly cashier in a bank and living in poverty in a group house. Meanwhile, Wafaa has become a history teacher, supporting her parents and refusing to get married, doggedly waiting for Ashraf, with whom she shares an initially stilted correspondence that eventually shows signs of something deeper. About the Author
REEM BASSIOUNEY is the author of five highly acclaimed novels in Arabic, all of which have been bestsellers in Egypt. Her second novel, "The Pistachio Seller" won the best Arabic translated novel award in 2009, and her novel "Professor Hanaa", which appeared in Arabic in 2008, won first prize in the Sawiris literary award - the biggest award in Egypt.

A Fun read about Egyptian culture

Voted best novel of the year in 2006 by the International Alexandria Library, The Pistachio Seller by Reem Bassiouney is now translated from Arabic so that English readers can enjoy a delightful read.

This story begins with adolescent love as Wafaa, a young Egyptian girl, says with a sense of fun and humor: "It was Saturday. I remember. And while he was standing on a step ladder in the hall, changing a light bulb in the faint light coming through the window, I decided to love him."

Raised in a strict Islamic culture, young Wafaa struggles to come to grips with her own beliefs and the confusing conflicts of a young coming of age body. She meets her cousin Ashraf when he visits from England and develops a healthy respect and growing admiration for her world-traveled and educated older cousin.

Bassiouney lends much factual detail and precise description of the Islam and Egyptian cultures to her story and treats touchy subjects with realism and light humor. The characters are so well defined as to believe the story to be a true narrative of the characters. At times, I wanted to laugh out loud at the amusing thoughts and conversations that two adverse upbringings created in Wafaa and Ashraf. Other times I wanted to slap the characters for their actions and attitudes.

Read The Pistachio Seller through to the end to see how the characters grow and inter-relate with each other and society. Does Wafaa get her man? Read it to see if she does and learn more about the Islamic culture and have fun doing it.

A fascinating introduction to Egypt

Bassiouney offers an in-depth exploration of a culture struggling with tradition and modernization, changing expectations for women, and the challenge of foreign influences. The protagonist is a well educated young woman determined to remain faithful to her own traditional ideals, while her love interest is a spoiled, selfish young man whose British upbringing has divorced him from his Egyptian identity. How these two different perspectives are reconciled is the crux of the story.
