the classic reference - but now too old - double classic?

i have used this book in the *past*
it was the classic with all the info you coudl ask for
back then it was 5stars plus
now however
it (2nd edition) is badly dated and barely worth 3 stars
(it would be fewer stars except that it is so complete and some things do not change like the basics of acoustics and hearing etc)

why cant i find the third edition listed at amazon ?
and now there is a rumored 4th to come out real soon now
.
wait for the 4th
if they don't gut it like happens to so many later editions
to save money by making it smaller
then
buy it and enjoy it for a long time
it will serve you well
.

Difficult lesson to hear through the first part of the book, but an accurate appraisal of the world economy. The second part of the book discusses what to do to take advantage of the inevitable economic circumstances. Pay attention, because many people made fortunes during the last Great Depression, and many will do the same during the next. The Beaulieu brothers called the recent Great Recession and I have clients who listened and came out of the economic downturn wealthier than they went in. This book should be on the reading list for all business leaders, their children, and grandchildren (maybe this generation would benefit more from their children's book).

Highly Recommended

This is a highly readable, highly viewable look at the beautiful things that a bit of programming can produce, without needing any special tools. Like many people, I started programming doing graphics with simple code. This would be a *great* way to explore the fun side of programming for someone starting out. The code is very approachable and clean - things that are hard can be skipped and come back to. Also the code is totally ready for experimenting with, it's always amazing what changing a few parameters can bring regardless of how long you've been at it.

I would recommend this not only to people starting out though. It really is a great way for a seasoned programmer to get back to the basics of what is so compelling about code. Simple things make amazing things, and these things are inherent in the relationships of amounts. It also reminds us, in these days of so many devices, OSs, libraries, frameworks -- that we can still start from nothing and very quickly have something. Most importantly it reminds us how fun programming can be.

Keith is one of those people who can make hard things clear without skipping important details. He not only convinces you that something like diffusion-limited aggregation is interesting, but motivates you to try mucking with it and convince yourself.

Can't recommend this enough. It is the best read/manual I've seen on this subject, and the only one I've seen at such an impulse price. Set aside a weekend and treat your busy mind to some candy.

Great mix of theory and practicality

This is a great book. Keith Peters goes through enough of the theory and history in plain English to understand the context of the code but not to bore the reader. The examples are extremely fun to code and play around with.

Susan Howell Brubaker has spent her professional career of more than thirty years in the Speech and Language Pathology Department at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. She specializes in working with adults who have suffered communicative loss as a result of neurological dysfunction or brain injury. She holds a B.S. from St. Lawrence University, an M.S. from Ithaca College, and a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

My Mom just had some health issues that made it important to help her work on her cognitive skills. I am so thankful for this book. She is on the road to recovery from her stroke and this work book has been a part of her daily therapy. If you have a loved one that has suffered a stroke and needs some extra "home work" to help you with your new normal in life this work book is a great investment.

Review of Materials

As a Speech Language Pathologist working with TBI population this is a great book and highly recommended for higher functioning patients. Caution: I noticed that some of the materials/ problems are the same as those from other books such as WALC, Results for Adults etc. almost down to the exact wording. If you have all or any of these books you may find duplicate materials. Not all, but some of them are replications. Although it did contain new materials I have never seen before. The book is useful and well laid out.
