A note on editions.

The 1977 (or 1978) Hyperion edition is a reprint of P. E. Mattheson's 1926 edition. There have been two recent translations, one by John R. Russell (1996) and the other by Ritchie Robertson (1997). I cannot speak authoritatively about either translation, having not examined them in detail, but I can tell you that Robertson's includes the 'Gedankenstriche' (long dashes) that Moritz used, rather than converting them into more modern punctuation. This and the price would lead me to order Robertson's paperback edition.

This is an interesting book, but the author says "Thus we learn that 200 watcher-class fallen angels landed on Mt. Hermon ...mating with women to produce angel-human hybrids known as the Nephilim." He is referring to Genesis 6, where it says "The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them." The sons of God don't refer to fallen angels; they refer to the male offspring of the Anunnaki gods. There were no Anunnaki women for them to mate with, so the 200 young gods made a pact, knowing they would get in trouble with their elders, and married earth women. All of this information is in Zecharia Sitchin's books. Also, Jesus said that "sons of God" in the Bible never refers to angels( see the Urantia Book, p. 1841). He also said angels don't reproduce ( 1841 ). Also, the word "Archon" in the title is misleading. It seems to refer to the Nephilim, but they aren't the same being. Archons, according to Laura Magdalene Eisenhower and others, are mind parasites that feed off negative energy. Other than these minor mistakes, the author wrote a very helpful book.

About the Author

Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, went to Cleveland, Ohio, lived for a number of years in Chicago, and long resided in New York City's Harlem. He graduated from Lincoln University in 1929 and was awarded an honorary Litt. D. in 1943. He was perhaps best known as a poet and the creator of Simple, but he also wrote novels, biography, history, plays (several of them Broadway hits), and children's books, and he edited several anthologies. Mr. Hughes died in 1967.

Arnold Rampersad, author of the widely acclaimed biography The Life of Langston Hughes, is Woodrow Wilson Professor of Literature and director of American Studies at Princeton University.

Mr. Hughes brings a zen like quality to his stories regarding his life and what he was forced to endure. He persevered, triumphed and soared. If you want to feel at peace with yourself this is a book to help you get there. Mr. Hughes is a role model that we should be glad we have. a gracious kind compassionate human. imho ;>)

As the sequel to "The Big Sea", Mr.Hughes again speaks the language of a poet so well that he makes the reading of his life seem like a first-person experience. After his travels on several ships and the taste of his first successes(and failures), he simply explores and writes: of Paris, Russia, and Cuba, and shares his experiences with the reader. His writing is so rich and vivid that he makes every location in the world seem like poetry in motion. This book and "The Big Sea" should definitely be on reading lists everywhere-or, if you have a friend or relative who feels like they're a "wandering spirit", these books would make great gifts. Mr.Hughes touches on everything human: from the strained relationship with his father to the blatant racism he encounters everyday; to the women he becomes fond of and his neverending thirst for experience and knowledge; to the countless sights of wonder in the world that one never sees when they are ignorant. Beautiful writing by a true poet.

My initial intention when I started reading this book was to read a few pages, then put it down and go to bed. A couple of hours later, I put the book down after I finished it - and I wanted more!

Amanda Usen has managed to incorporate food as a third highly charged sensualized element that both explains the characters and fuels their attraction and connection. Both Culinary Academy graduates, Lila is known for her unusual combinations that elevate a dish to `more', where her chief competition Jack is a master of the classical combinations and techniques that create the perfect bite.

The characters were very well created: Lila is a fighter, struggling with debt and her inherent need to run away when the going gets tough. Jack is struggling against his undemonstrative father, never feeling quite `enough' to fill his dreams of a culinary empire. Together their chemistry is smoking hot, they are perfect together as long as they don't speak: or stick to discussions about food.

While both have disparate intentions for their collaboration in the kitchen, their attraction is the overwhelming force that both try to ignore, and fail miserably. It's no surprise that their tempers and baggage lead them to believe the worst of one another despite the magic they make in the bedroom.

Remember that title, I'll come back to it in a minute.

But on the topic of food and love: Usen is a master at having her characters make both so damn well.

From the moment Jack Calabrese sleeps with Lila Grant and steals her recipes to win their culinary academy competition, we know there's going to be hell to pay. He breaks her heart and shakes her confidence...but not her spirit.

Six months later, hard-working Lila finds herself serving up hors d'oeuvres - and her cleavage, courtesy of a French maid's costume - to Jack at a bachelor party. If the cocky, poor little rich boy thinks he's going to pop back into her life as easily as popping one of her decadent salmon scones between his lips, he's got another thing coming. Hell, no - as Lila loves to say.

I loved Lila's work ethic (starting with setting the alarm to make sure her sleeping lover/fellow competitor didn't oversleep the morning of the competition) and her feisty passion. She's talented and creative, but when she realizes her inspiration to cook comes from the wants and needs of those around her, Lila really shines.

Jack is no slouch; he is powerfully driven and passionate as well. Whether he is trying to please his father in the kitchen or Lila in the bedroom, he's a tempest of talent and determination. At the same time, he was balanced with a vulnerability that I found irresistible.

FOOD IS LOVE: Usen demonstrates how both can be delicate and complicated, yet bold and simple. Beautiful and satisfying. Putting both out there - whether it's putting your heart and soul into a dish, or opening your heart and soul to someone - is scary as well.

Best CC guide out there by far!

This book is great. Has all 50 state's CC laws, prohibited areas, and the transport laws are great! What makes it so much better than the other guide is that this actually tells you where you can carry and where you can't in each state. It's easy to use, and I love the 6x9 format as it is much easier to take with me when I travel.

Comprising nine chapters organized chronologically, the book begins with the archeological evidence of fertility cults and the early shamanic ruler Himiko in prehistoric Japan and ends with an examination of the influence of feminism and demographic changes on religious practices during the “lost decades” of the post-1990 era. By viewing Japanese religious history through the eyes of women, Women in Japanese Religions presents a new narrative that offers strikingly different vistas of Japan’s pluralistic traditions than the received accounts that foreground male religious figures and male-dominated institutions.

With 9 contributors, I recommend this book as a resource on a range of underactive bladder related topics. About half the content of the book is review with the rest bringing new research to our understanding. Because there is very little on pediatrics and underactive bladder, I found chapter 12-“Children with Underactive Bladder” particularly valuable.

A must read for any urologist or RN in urology as this provides an extremely useful guide for evaluating, diagnosing and treating patients with underactive bladder. Book is very nicely structured, contains great illustrations, detailed list of references, covers a wide range of underlying causes of UAB, and even talks about UAB in the pediatric population. I'm very happy with my purchase.
