I loved this book

I loved this book. It was one of the three texts I used as the foundation for my own thesis and have recommended it to several graduate classes. I have found the thesis which Gamber raises to make for excellent classroom discussions and challenges what many folks think they know about family life and historic living arrangements.

Dreadfully, woefully, mind-numbingly boring

This is, to be quite frank, a dreadfully boring book. Whatever thesis Gamber is attempting to convey is lost is the unending monotonousness of her anecdotal examples and nonexistent argument. Overall Gamber is attempting to highlight the existence of "separate social spheres". the cultural distinctions between "private" and "public" places, and their development during the nineteenth century. However through this book she fails to do so effectively. The numerous examples given do not effectively illustrate the point she is trying to make and her prose are woefully boring. I would not recommend this book.
